The death of Renee Good, a Minnesota woman who was fatally shot by a federal immigration agent earlier this year, has been officially ruled a homicide by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to records released by the medical examiner, Good died from multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of death was classified as a homicide.

Good was shot on January 7 by Jonathan Ross, an agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, while she was seated behind the wheel of her Honda Pilot in Minneapolis. After being struck by gunfire, the vehicle veered into the street and crashed.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene at approximately 9:42 a.m. and found Good unresponsive inside the vehicle. Incident reports state that she had visible blood on her face and torso. She sustained two gunshot wounds to the right side of her chest, one gunshot wound to her left forearm, and an additional possible gunshot wound to the left side of her head, with tissue protrusion. Blood was also observed coming from her left ear.

The medical examiner’s office has not yet released a full autopsy report, and additional details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.

Antonio Romanucci, an attorney representing Good’s family, acknowledged the ruling in a statement following the release of the examiner’s findings. He said the family is awaiting the complete autopsy report and hopes officials will share it with them before releasing further details publicly.

The shooting has sparked significant controversy and scrutiny. Federal authorities have stated that Good attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon, a claim that has been strongly disputed by Good’s family and by local officials.

Good was a mother of three who had recently relocated to Minneapolis with her partner, Becca. Her death has prompted calls for transparency and accountability as investigations into the incident continue.

Romanucci, who represents Good’s family, is a prominent civil rights attorney who previously helped secure a $27 million settlement for the family of George Floyd.
