Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts woman accused of killing her three young children and attempting suicide in 2023, remains suicidal more than three years later, according to her attorney.

Clancy’s lawyer made the statement during a recent hearing in Plymouth County Superior Court as he requested that his client be transported to trial in a medical vehicle rather than a standard jail van. The criminal trial, originally scheduled for February, has been postponed until July.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington argued that transporting Clancy in a traditional prisoner van could worsen her mental health and increase the risk of self-harm. He said the confinement and loss of control associated with inmate transport could trigger severe psychological distress.

Reddington warned the court that failing to accommodate Clancy’s medical needs during trial proceedings could result in a suicide attempt, emphasizing that her condition remains fragile.

Prosecutors opposed the request, arguing that arriving in a medical vehicle could unfairly influence jurors and the public by portraying Clancy as a victim rather than a defendant accused of intentionally killing her children.

The judge has not yet ruled on the transportation request and is expected to issue a decision next week. Clancy has appeared remotely from a state hospital for most of her court proceedings to date.

The hearing came shortly after the judge denied a defense motion to move the trial out of Plymouth County.

Clancy’s legal team has stated it plans to pursue an insanity defense, arguing that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings. Prosecutors allege that on Jan. 24, 2023, Clancy asked her husband to leave the home to pick up dinner, then strangled their three children while he was gone.

Her husband returned approximately 25 minutes later and discovered that Clancy had jumped from a second-story bedroom window in an apparent suicide attempt.
