A woman in England has been arrested after her dog allegedly attacked two children, sending both to the hospital for treatment.
Police in Greater Manchester said officers responded to reports of a dog attack on Halliwell Road in the Bolton area on Monday, Jan. 5. According to authorities, a loose dog bit two children during the incident.
Emergency responders transported both children to a local hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. Police later confirmed that the children have since been discharged.
On Friday, Jan. 9, investigators announced the arrest of a 47-year-old woman on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. The dog involved in the attack was seized and placed in a secure kennel, where it will undergo an assessment.
The woman remains in police custody for questioning as the investigation continues.
Separate Dog Attack Reported Days Earlier
The arrest comes just days after a separate dog-related incident in the same Bolton area. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, police responded to a report of an out-of-control dog attacking a woman on Wolfenden Street.
The victim in that incident suffered minor injuries and did not require long-term medical treatment. Officers seized the dog involved and arrested its owner, though that individual was later released on bail pending further inquiries.
Police said the owner was not present at the time of the attack but remains responsible for ensuring the dog is properly controlled. Investigators are still working to identify the individual who was walking the dog when the incident occurred.
Authorities confirmed that the two attacks are unrelated and involved different dogs.
Broader Concerns Over Dog Attacks
Dog attacks have drawn increased public attention in recent years across England, particularly following new restrictions on certain breeds. However, police have not disclosed the breeds of the dogs involved in either Bolton incident.
While official statistics do not track dog attacks by breed, law enforcement data shows a significant rise in reported dog attacks across England and Wales over the past several years.
Both investigations remain ongoing, and police have urged dog owners to ensure their pets are properly controlled in public spaces to prevent further incidents.
