Prince William’s annual income has been revealed in a newly released royal financial report, shedding light on the substantial resources that support his role as Prince of Wales.

According to the Duchy of Cornwall’s Integrated Annual Report published in June 2025, Prince William received a distributable surplus of £22.9 million (approximately $30.9 million) for the 2024–2025 financial year. This marked his second year overseeing the Duchy of Cornwall estate after inheriting it in 2022, when his father, King Charles, ascended the throne.

Unlike most working royals, Prince William does not earn a traditional salary. Instead, the income generated by the Duchy of Cornwall is used to cover the official duties, charitable activities and private expenses of the Prince of Wales, his wife Kate Middleton, and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The Duchy of Cornwall is a vast estate established in 1337 by King Edward III to provide financial support to the heir to the British throne. Today, it spans roughly 130,000 acres across 23 counties in England and Wales and includes farmland, residential properties, commercial buildings and other assets. The estate is valued at more than $1 billion.

When King Charles became monarch in 2022, Prince William automatically assumed the title of Duke of Cornwall and responsibility for managing the estate. Since then, he has taken an increasingly hands-on role, making frequent visits and engaging with projects across the Duchy.

Prince William is understood to pay income tax on the money he receives from the Duchy, after deducting household-related expenses, though the exact amount of those expenses has not been publicly disclosed.

Following Queen Elizabeth’s death, royal sources previously said Prince William was “fully immersing himself” in his new responsibilities. His work has included visits to Cornwall, such as an overnight stay in Newquay in May 2024, where he toured an innovative housing development designed to address homelessness.

The report also highlights William’s evolving royal duties. In recent years, he has taken on new patronages, including roles with the Welsh Guards Charity and the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association. He also became president of the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association and transitioned from president to patron of Fields in Trust.

A lifelong football fan, Prince William now serves as patron of The Football Association, a role previously held by Queen Elizabeth II. He had been the FA’s president since 2006 before assuming the more senior position as Prince of Wales.

Looking ahead, the Duchy of Cornwall continues to focus on sustainability. According to the 2025 Integrated Impact Report, the estate aims to become net zero by the end of 2032, aligning with Prince William’s broader interest in environmental and climate initiatives.
