A woman is recovering after being bitten and knocked to the ground during a violent dog attack in Greater Manchester, England, authorities said.
Police responded to reports of an out-of-control dog attacking a woman on Wolfenden Street in Bolton at approximately 2:50 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Jan. 7. The victim, whose identity has not been released, suffered minor injuries and received medical attention.
The dog was seized near Rawsthorne Park following the incident, and a 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control. Authorities later released the man on bail as the investigation continues.
Police said the man arrested was not walking the dog at the time of the attack but is believed to be the animal’s owner. Investigators are still working to identify the individual who was handling the dog when the attack occurred.
Video footage circulating online shows a dog on a leash charging toward the woman while a man struggles unsuccessfully to restrain it. The dog repeatedly lunges at the woman, dragging her to the ground before she is able to break free and escape.
The dog’s breed has not been disclosed. Officials confirmed the animal is being held at a secure kennel while the investigation remains ongoing.
Local officials said they have been in contact with the victim’s family and urged residents to remain cautious while the matter is under review.
