A Texas substitute teacher and her boyfriend have been charged with multiple child sex offenses following an investigation by local and state authorities.

Madison Jones, 30, was arrested after officers with the Midlothian Police Department responded to a report of a possible sexual assault involving a child on Dec. 17. According to a police press release issued on Dec. 24, Jones was taken into custody following the initial investigation.

She has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, along with several additional related offenses, police said. Law enforcement records cited by the San Antonio Express-News, WHMI and WFAA indicate that the additional charges include possession of more than 500 visual depictions of child pornography and two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.

Jones’ alleged boyfriend, Zackery Dondlinger, 37, was also arrested in connection with the case. He was taken into custody by the Texas Department of Public Safety on Dec. 23 in Loving County. Police said he faces a charge of sexual performance by a child.

Midlothian Assistant Chief of Police Scott Brown told PEOPLE that the investigation involved allegations against both Jones and her boyfriend but was not connected to her work in education. Brown said Jones had been employed as a substitute teacher in the local school district, but authorities found no link between her alleged crimes and her teaching role.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, the investigation began after a friend of Jones contacted police and reported that Jones claimed she had recorded herself performing sexual acts with a 5-year-old child. Authorities allege that Jones then sent the video to Dondlinger.

Police interviewed Jones during the investigation, and she allegedly admitted to recording sexually explicit videos involving the child. The affidavit states that Jones told investigators she sent the videos to Dondlinger through Snapchat.

During a search of Jones’ phone, detectives allegedly found sexually explicit messages exchanged between Jones and Dondlinger that referenced the child, according to the affidavit.

The Midlothian Independent School District confirmed to PEOPLE that Jones had worked as a substitute teacher at Heritage High School and Baxter Elementary School for a total of four days over the past year. The district said she is no longer employed.

Authorities have not said whether Jones or Dondlinger has entered a plea or hired legal representation.

Anyone with information related to the case has been asked to contact Midlothian Police Detective Dawson Frazer. Officials also urged anyone who suspects child abuse to contact the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline, which is available 24 hours a day and operates confidentially in multiple languages.
