A 10-year-old boy has been accused of intentionally shooting his 9-year-old friend during a visit in Alexandria, Louisiana, leaving the younger child with life-altering injuries.
The shooting occurred on Dec. 6, according to the Alexandria Police Department. The two children were together when the incident took place, though authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
The injured child, identified by family members as Tre’Michael, was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent emergency treatment. After regaining the ability to speak, Tre’Michael told his mother from his hospital bed that the shooting was deliberate.
According to his mother, Lakisha Ledguies, her son said, “Mama, he shot me on purpose,” shortly after doctors removed a breathing tube.
Police initially believed the shooting was accidental. However, following further investigation, authorities determined the act was intentional and arrested the 10-year-old on suspicion of aggravated second-degree battery and juvenile possession of a handgun. Because the suspect is a minor, his identity has not been released.
Officials have not disclosed how the child obtained the firearm or whether any adults could face charges in connection with the weapon’s access. The investigation remains ongoing.
Severe Injuries and Long Recovery
Family members say Tre’Michael sustained catastrophic injuries as a result of the gunshot wound. According to a relative, the bullet caused the loss of his right kidney, half of his left lung, and severely damaged his intestines.
The family described his recovery as an ongoing and uncertain process, noting that the child faces significant physical and emotional challenges in the aftermath of the shooting.
Despite the severity of his injuries, relatives say the family has been overwhelmed by community support and continues to focus on Tre’Michael’s recovery.

Police have not provided additional details about the firearm involved or confirmed whether further charges may be filed. Authorities said the case remains under active investigation.
The incident has renewed concerns about firearm access, safety, and accountability involving minors, particularly in residential settings.
