Reflections of Revenge: A Wedding Night of Shadows

It was a late autumn night when I found out the truth, the kind of truth that chills your bones. My best friend, Jason, had done something unforgivable to my partner, Mia. We were all close, our lives intertwined since childhood, but that night everything shattered. Mia confessed, eyes haunted, voice breaking as she revealed Jason had hurt her, in ways I couldn’t have imagined. And he’d hidden it all, laughing alongside me, sharing beers and stories as if nothing had happened.

I couldn’t let him get away with it. Not without consequences.

As fate would have it, Jason’s wedding was in just a month. He’d been my best friend, and I’d been his best man, but now, I had a new plan—a plan to make sure his special day would become his worst nightmare.

When the wedding day arrived, everything seemed perfect. The guests buzzed with excitement, the air filled with laughter and celebration. But no one knew what I had prepared. I waited until the reception, when everyone was seated, laughing and toasting Jason and his new bride.

I stood up, pretending to make a best man speech. As I began, I held up a small mirror—Jason’s grandmother’s mirror, the one he’d loved since he was a child. But I’d done something to it. I’d worked with an old woman in town, one who knew about curses. The mirror was now something else, something twisted.

“Jason,” I said, my voice steady. “I wanted to give you something special, something that shows who you really are.”

He grinned, reaching for the mirror, but as he touched it, his face changed. His smile faded, replaced by horror as his reflection twisted, showing the darkness inside him, his sins, his secrets. He stumbled back, trying to drop the mirror, but it wouldn’t leave his hands.

Suddenly, the lights flickered, and the room grew cold. Shadows crept across the walls, whispering his secrets. Guests gasped, some screamed, but Jason couldn’t move. He was trapped, reliving every dark deed he’d ever hidden, every terrible thing he’d done.

By the time it was over, Jason was broken, his secrets laid bare. He had no friends left, no bride, no life. And I walked away, knowing that he’d finally paid the price for what he’d done to Mia.

Some say he’s still haunted by those shadows, that he sees them in every reflection. And every time he looks into a mirror, he remembers the horror of that night.

As the whispers faded and the mirror fell to the floor, shattered like his reputation, Jason crumpled. The wedding guests looked on, horrified and speechless, as he sat alone amid the broken glass, surrounded by the weight of his own guilt. His bride, pale and trembling, quickly left the room, leaving him isolated, abandoned by everyone he once thought he had under his charm.

From that night on, Jason became a ghost of himself. No one saw him at work, and his house, once filled with laughter and friends, stood cold and silent. Shadows clung to him, lurking in every corner and reflection, following him as if alive with malice. He would catch glimpses of dark figures in mirrors, faces twisted in accusation, eyes that knew his secrets. Every time he turned away, he could feel them, breathing down his neck, waiting for him to slip into darkness.

A month later, he disappeared without a trace. People in town speculated he’d gone mad or had left to escape his own conscience, but no one really knew where he’d gone. Some said he went searching for forgiveness, while others believed he’d been consumed by the very shadows he created.

Years passed, and his story became a warning to those who dared to betray those closest to them. And I, the one who had been his best friend, moved forward with Mia. We rebuilt our lives, free from Jason’s darkness, knowing that revenge had come full circle, sealing his fate forever.

And on dark nights, when the wind howls, people claim they still see a shadow lurking in mirrors, a figure trapped between this world and the next, forever bound to his sins.
